George enters the subconscious; endless darkness spreads underfoot. In the distance, black figures—Steve's wife, brother, child—have lost all color in his mind. Steve stands in the void, expressionless.
George:
Steve, why trap yourself here? Why is there no light?
Steve:
Because I am afraid.
George:
Afraid of what?
A light door opens, illuminating the space. Lily's shadow emerges.
Lily (Projection):
He isn't afraid of death. He is afraid of loneliness. Afraid of never being loved again.
George:
How do you know? Who are you?
Lily (Projection):
Because I know his past and his loneliness.
Lily:
I was his lover. I left when I got cancer. He thinks I'm dead. I recovered, but he had a family. I didn't contact him.
Steve:
Lily?! You're alive!
George feels the premonition. Lily is the key. Steve has an unfinished love waiting for him.
