GeorgeSteve, think of your family, think of your brother. Won't they be sad if you leave?
Steve shudders as if pierced.
SteveMy brother Lucus... he's the one I worry about most. I've taken care of him since I was thirteen.
His voice turns rough like sandpaper.
GeorgeWhat did you see that day?
SteveI came home early... saw two figures downstairs. My wife and brother. They were too close... so close no explanation was needed.
GeorgeDid you ask them?
Steve (Bitter smile)No. I couldn't even lift my feet. In that moment, I felt as superfluous as air.
GeorgeBut you still have a child, right?
SteveMy child is everything to me. I love him more than myself.
He looks up, eyes full of ash.
SteveUntil I found out the child belongs to my wife and the brother I raised with my own hands.
GeorgeSo you chose to end it all?
SteveLike everyone who commits suicide, I don't actually want to die. I just can't find a reason to live.
George (Softly)Actually, you have another reason to live that even you don't know about.
